START of tape 1:
*background noise from car driving*
I just hope this damn thing works for all the money it cost.
Well, this is Parker Kellmann on the way to the first and I hope not the last recording session at the Veterans Retirement Center in Sydney. I'm recording all this for future reference, although I feel pretty stupid talking to myself.
Let's start with the beginning *chuckles*
I first noticed the guy about 6 weeks ago when i made a visit to grandpa John Kellman. He fought as part of the ANZAC in World War 2 and was living in the Retirement Center for the last 2 years. What I noticed about the guy was his accent or more the lack of.
While I was sitting with my grandpa I heard him talking with some other resident and he spoke the most British English I've ever heard...sounded like the damn Oxford English dictionary itself. Only later did I learn that he is an Oxford alumnus and was a member of the University rowing team that won that famous regatta between Oxford and Cambridge three times in a row. Grandpa told me that the guy was an Aussie boy regardless the accent and that he was in some special service during the war. Little did I know what that meant...
Pure coincidence brought the guy back to my attention. *laughs*
When I walked grandpa back to his room we came by an opened door and I caught a glimpse of wall full of medals. Grandpa noticed that and told me that this was the guys room and that I should just ask if I wanted to hear a war story. He told me that that guy, James to his name, would happily tell me...and he did...
What the hell!?
Pull out of my lane you stupid f... *screeching tires*

CONTINUATION of tape 1:
*background noise from car driving*
Back to the tape.
After bringing grandpa back into his room I went back into the common room and directly approached the scrawny guy in the wheelchair with the so British accent. Sticking with the truth I told him that I've seen his medals while walking by and how impressed I was. The flattering worked and soon he was talking away about how he got some of them.
He always added to it that I mustn't tell these stories to anybody else, that they are top secret, but I didn't really believe him. He always called me "boy" and seemed pretty confused at times so didn't take him all that serious in the beginning. Only when stopping by the library to compare what I remembered with actual history books I started believing. Most of his stories couldn't be referenced to any military operation but a few did and they always were secret commando actions with no details given. From then on I knew that I was onto something big...really big...getting this stories published could earn me an awful lot of money.
Next visit to grandpa was rather short and most of my time there I spent with James trying to get more stories out of him. That worked well for the first few minutes...until he discovered that I was taking notes...
He would have jumped out of his chair if physically able to do so - that's how angry he got. He snatched the notebook from me...and hell that guy is damn fast for his age...and tore out the page with my notes. He literally ate the page and then continued scolding me about how I mustn't tell anybody...that everything was top secret...well that was the end to this visit and I didn't dare to come back for some weeks.
When finally coming back James didn't even remember the row...poor old chap sometimes can't even remember what he had for breakfast...only sure thing is that he remembers nearly everything from the war.
Through a friend of mine I finally found the solution for my little notes dilemma. He got me this small tape recorder easily hidden in my pocket. The controls are hidden in my sleeves so I should be able to start and stop the recording without James noticing it. And with this recordings I will have enough notes to get the war stories published and get rich rich rich *laughs*

Yep. What's the name of the game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0jhSmTaJdU)?

CONTINUATION of tape 1:
*indoor walking sounds - people talking in the background (probably common room of retirement home)*
Good morning Mr. Blackwood!
My boy, you're back! How are you? Everything fine?
I told you to call me James! Mr. Blackwood is my father and he's dead a long time now...
Thanks, I'm fine. How are you? Your back still giving you troubles?
As usual but one can't help it, with my number of years I can call me lucky to have just such little problems.
James, you wanted to tell me some story from Norway last time but I had to leave...do you remember? Do you want to tell me today?
Ahhh...yes...Norway...damn cold place...sometimes I thought I would never get warm again...what did I want to tell you...now...that's a good question....
...I think I remember...your quite young face was it that brought the memory back...
It was one of our very first missions and it was in Norway, must've been January or February 1941. We were deployed near Stavanger airfield in an area called Sola. Did I mention that it was damn cold there?
Yes, you did James...
We were three guys on that mission. Myself, Jack O'Hara from Ireland and Samuel Brooklyn from the US. Jack was a Green Beret and a bull of a man. A former heavy weight boxing champion and ill tempered, short somebody you wouldn't want to cross. Samuel was a real tread head, he knew everything about anything with an engine. But he was some kind of crook, I've worked well with him but I never came around to really like or trust him.
Back then the Jerries had established big airbases at Stavanger, Trondheim and Herdla which allowed them to reach the whole area of the North Sea with their bombers. As part of our operations against this we were tasked to blow up an important radio relay station on a small island near Stavanger.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0001.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
The first problem was how to infiltrate the area which was tightly cordoned by Germans. We managed but had to split up and then had to regroup while staying undetected.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0002.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0003.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
On top of that we didn't even have all our gear with us. Swimming the ice cold water wasn't much of a problem for me but Jack and Samuel were not up to it so I had to get some transport first. For my part I was alone with three German soldiers on a small island north of the other guys when the action started. They had an inflatable boat with them so going around them wasn't an option this time.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0004.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
I could see that these Jerries were guarding this forsaken island for quite some time now and their guard pattern was pretty poor. One of them was coming near my hiding place on his patrol and for some time he was quite alone. I took my time to memorize their movement and started the moment he turned his back on me. With fast but silent steps I closed the distance and used my knife to silence him. I had only a few seconds before the other Jerry on patrol would come in view again and sprinted behind a rock to stay hidden. The body of the dead German lay in a small ditch and from that distance it wasn't visible in the early morning light.
Well, the moment this guy turned around I went after him and also got him with the knife. What do you learn from that boy!?
What!? Sorry, James. I don't have a clue - please tell me.
Well boy, the most important lesson here is that even on patrol you should not stay on the same exact patrol all the time. If you are always on the same pattern it's easy for somebody like me to sneak up to you and KRKKK *killing sound imitation from Mr.Blackwood* you are dead.
Anyway, this left me with one more German on the Island, the guy guarding the inflatable boat. He was completely focused on the boat and the waterline and never even turned around. I took my time to get near him then cut his throat from behind. The next thing you can learn here boy, for gods sake turn around sometimes. While turning him around to go through his pockets I noticed the face of the Jerry I just killed, it looked like a kid's. From his documents I learned that he was nineteen but for me he looked like twelve. This wasn't the first German I killed nor the last but this one really stuck in my mind, for a few seconds I really felt something like guilt for killing somebody with his whole life still before him. Well, I got over it - war is war.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0005.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Just remember this lessons boy, I don't want to you to get killed that easily. Yeah...that's the story I wanted to tell you because your face reminded me that dead German...that's not the end of this story but I'm tired now.
*gulps* Ahhh...Thanks James. Take a rest now, I will visit you again soon.

CONTINUATION of tape 1:
*recording started late in the middle of sentence, Mr. Blackwood speaking*
...good quality boat. But before I could get the other guys with it they had to get to the shore and there were German patrols near their position too.
Jack was in the west of a lone German was patrolling there. The Irishman liked simple plans best and he took cover behind some crumbling walls of some old building. While the Jerry wasn't looking he made some obvious footprints into a nearby snow patch and hid again. The German took the bait and ran to take a look at the tracks. Jack just followed him and took put his knife into him.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0006.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0007.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Now there was only a guarded obstacle position between Jack and Samuel but also 3 more Germans. One stationary guard for the obstacle and a 2 men patrol with machine pistols. Well Samuel had a MP too and he liked nothing more than to shoot things but even he knew that this wasn't an option here.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0008.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Jack had a remote controlled noisemaker decoy with him and he used it to focus the lone guards attention away from Samuel. While now the other Germans were on the far side of their patrol he sprinted into the cover of an old house near the shore without anybody noticing.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0009.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
At the next opportunity Jack scaled the wall behind the German guard and joined Samuel at the shore where I picked them up got us all to our target. Here on that island there was a machine gun emplacement and a 3 men patrol guarding the relay station while another German was enjoying a smoke to the east.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0010.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0011.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Plan was simple again. Jack surprised the machine gunner from behind with his knife and Samuel threw himself behind the machine gun. The American was a gun fanatic and was familiar with anything that could shoot. A few fire bursts later and the patrol guarding the relay station lay dead before it. Now boy, how do you think we did blow up this station without having any explosives with us?
*sighs in annoyance* I have now idea James...what did you do?
Well we used what we had at hand, like always we did.
There was a fuel drum nearby and our bull Jack carried it over without even breaking sweat. Another burst from the machine gun and the whole thing went up like so much fireworks and we faded away into the countryside with the mission accomplished.

Wow, quite a story James. Thanks for sharing.
No problem boy, I like to talk about the old times. Just remember, you mustn't breath a word of this to anybody.
Of course James, you can trust me.

CONTINUATION of tape 1:
*recording seems to be started after some question to Mr. Blackwood*
War? What war? I don't know anything about a war.
The second World War James. Do you remember?
You were on some commando operation in Norway, you told me about it last time.
About the radio relay station you blew up.
Take your time, think back.
I'd really like to hear more of your time there.
Ahh, it's you boy.
I think I remember, damn cold up there in Norway. Did I tell you about you damned cold it was?
Yes James you did. *sighs*
Yes, Norway...what a cold country. And I wasn't as lucky as the other guys, who mostly kept dry. I was the marine specialist of the team and had to swim and dive a lot and I can tell you that this isn't fun with water that just about at freezing point.
I remember a damned cold river where I had to swim a lot and this in Norwegian winter. It must have been in 1941, somewhere in March I think. High command finally decided to start some bigger operations against the Germans there and we were part of the plan. Our mission was to infiltrate a heavily defended fuel depot near Storfjord and blow it up. This would draw the enemies attention away from the rest of Operation Claymore and severely limit their response time.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0016.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0017.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
On that mission it were again me with Jack and Samuel but there were also Thomas Hancock and Francis Woolridge with us. Thomas was from Liverpool and a really great guy, you could have a lot of fun with him. In combat he was the devil, took risks like nobody else but always pulled it off. He was our sapper and expert for demolitions and mines. Francis on the other side was rather reserved, he was nice but never warm. He came from a noble family and a sniper who even got a shooting gold medal in the Olympic Games.
We came near our target from the south separated from our target by this damn cold river. A German gunboat was patrolling the river every few minutes and we had to take great care not to be discovered by that beast. Jack was the head of our outfit and did most of the dirty work himself when possible so he sent me and the rest of the guys into an abandoned building to get out of sight. He then used his trusted noisemaker decoy the lure the 3 German guards on our side of the river into deadly encounters with his knife. Hiding the bodies was as always most important but Jack was a bull of a man and could carry them away easily.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0018.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0019.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
After that it was Francis' turn. Besides the patrol boat on the river there also was a German guard patrolling on on wall on the other side of the river. He would have spotted us for sure when crossing it and so he had to go. Francis took his time to learn the German patrol patterns and discovered that at some point this guy was out of site of all his friends. So he got in position and took him out exactly in that dead spot with his sniper rifle. We had only very little ammo for that baby but one shot was all he needed.... *mumbling*

James?
James! What happened then?
Fuck it, he fell asleep again...

CONTINUATION of tape 1:
*mumbling* ...where did I leave off last time?
Norway? The fuel depot near Storfjord?
Right, so there we were, no more Germans on our side of the river but plenty of them in their camp with the fuel. It would have been easy for me to dive through the river, get into the camp from the waterside and blow up the fuel but we needed a truck to get away so we had to clear the front door as well.
So the first thing to do was to clear an area on the other side from the Jerries so I could get the others over with the boat. I took my diving gear to get over in no time and took out a lone guard from behind with my harpoon. The body lay in a dead spot where none of the other patrols checked and I doubled back to get the others. I could only take 2 passengers at a time so I had to go twice, always taking care to not run into that damn patrol boat.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0021.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0022.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
The fuel depot itself was small but well defended. Besides a guard at the main entrance and another one patrolling the yard there were 2 buildings full of guards and 2 machine gun towers. Outside the camp were 2 more patrols with machine pistols but their patrols took them away from us and provided us with room to operate.
Francis took out his sniper rifle again and shot first the Jerry in the yard and then the one at the main gate. We took care to get the timing right and Jack hid the body before the 4 men patrol came back into the area.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0023.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
With the entrance clear the whole crew sneaked into the camp. Thomas prepared his explosives while we had quite an argument with Samuel. He wanted to use some of the fuel drums to blow up the other buildings as well. The American always wanted to blow something up and as we knew the building full of Germans he quite insisted. I never had a problem with killing Germans when necessary but in this case I didn't agree. They weren't in the way of our mission and I always thought we should act as professionals and not butchers. Jack had overall command of the mission and he agreed with me so that was the end of that discussion.
So Sam got us the German Truck and we all got in after Thomas started the timer of the bomb he planted at the big fuel tanks. First slowly to not arouse suspicion we drove along the road to the southeast. When the fuel depot went ups like a huge fireworks we hit it and got away with the Germans firing after us.

very interesting art to do an AAR
very amazing to hear this Story while Imaging the Mission...
START of tape 2:
*knocking, presumably at Mr.Blackwoods door*
James, can I come in?
Ah boy, it's you. Yes, come in.
Turn off the lights in the hall please, you youngsters have no idea how important electricity can be that you should never waste it...
Guess you want another war story...I have one for you...it's exactly about that, electricity. We gave the Germans quite a blow in Norway with taking out their power source.
It must have been spring 1941 and we were near Eidfjord. Our mission was to blow up the hydro electric power plant of Sysendam to flood the area and kill electricity in the whole area.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0026.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0027.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
We infiltrated the area from the Northeast and met behind an old brick wall. We were four guys on this mission. Myself, Jack, Thomas and Rene Duchamp a Frenchman and member of the resistance. This Frenchman was a genius, speaking 5 languages and quite an actor, with the right clothes he could pose as anything. He was easy to like, or at least the character he showed to us - you could never tell for sure what he was really thinking behind all his acting.
Besides some stationary guards there was a strong German patrol near us and we had to avoid them. So we crawled quite a bit through dirt and ditches but got around them easy that way.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0028.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
The stationary German guards had overlapping patterns so we couldn't get around them and had to take them out. The guy near the dam did not look my way for a few seconds and I managed to creep up and take him out with my harpoon.
After that we could get into the dead spot of the other 2 guards and Jack finished them with his knife before hiding their bodies out of the way. With that we had access to the water but that was just the start of our problems. We didn't even have a boat with us and the Germans wouldn't give up theirs without a fight.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0029.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0030.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Getting a boat from the Germans turned out a lot easier than expected. There was small German camp near us that I could reach undetected with my diving gear. On the far side of that camp they had exactly the boat we needed and there was just one guard. So I just slipped out of the water once he passed by and took him out with my harpoon.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0031.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Then it got a bit more difficult. We knew that there were spare German officer uniforms in that camp and Rene could use them to help us with him posing as that. The problem was that I had no idea what exactly he needed and taking all would have been to suspicious. I had to clear the way so I could get the others in by boat.
So I left the water on eastern edge of the camp got my bearings. A lot of stationary guards and a patrol but also lot's of cover to use. I crept from cover to cover, and got one Jerry after the other from behind. I was silent death and before long all their guards within the camp lay dead.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0032.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Can you imagine that feeling boy?
Moving silently through an enemy camp, any noise could mean your death but you are better than that, you are an professional. No noise, just silent death. No you can't...how should you...
*Mr. Blackwood is trailing off and starts snorring*
Recording of tape 2 STOPPED.
CONTINUATION of tape 2:
*mumbling* ...where did I leave off last time?
I think it was Sysendam and I just cleared out that German camp. So I brought over our french friend with the boat and he picked on of the spare uniforms lying around there. When he was finished and practicing a few German lines I was impressed, if I didn't know him for a Frenchman I would have bet good money on him being a German.
With that disguise Rene could move freely through the German lines and infiltrate their main camp near the base of the dam. That camp was protected with an electric fence but that's the very first thing Rene turned off for us.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0033.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Rene had time to learn the German patrol pattern in their camp and identified some lone guards not paying attention all the time. He had a syringe with a quick poison and went to work. In a matter of minutes he took out 3 Jerries and hid their bodies behind an empty house.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0034.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
The Germans had two patrols on the waterside of their camp, moving along the outer side of the fence. Rene could take them out one by one before moving their bodies into cover and signalling us that we could come over.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0035.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
Then it was time to find us some explosives, we had nothing with us but had to blow up that damn dam. Rene discovered 2 explosive charges in the German camp. There was only one guard left in our way to them but another one on overwatch. In his disguise as German officer Rene could easily distract the overwatch while Jack took out the guard and hid the body behind a house. Thomas then enough time to get what he needed for 2 bombs with time fuse.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0036.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
The main problem at the dam was a machine gun bunker at it's base. We had to take it out with on of our bombs but after that a lot of guards would rush to the site and we really had to be fast to get the bomb for the dam in place before they got us. To increase our odds Jack and Rene took out 2 other guards in the camp.
https://www.imgbox.de/users/kareil/KellmanTapes/KMT_0037.jpg (https://www.imgbox.de/)
We then felt confident to make our move. Rene distracted a strong German patrol on the far side of their patrol and Thomas crawled of to the machine gun bunker. While no German watched he planted it and got back to us in the nearby boat. Seconds later the bomb went off and the bunker was gone. In the German camp all alarms started and they came running our way.
As fast as I could I got the boat over to the base of the dam and Thomas got out to plant the second bomb. Immediately we made for the far side of the river and just got out of the boat and in cover before the Germans discovered us and shot the boat to shreds. Samuel was waiting in the area with a stolen truck and the second explosion was his signal. The Germans knew where we were and they were on their way to us so we got into the truck quickly while Rene sprinted over. The reckless Frenchmen overtook several Germans but his disguise was still working. He jumped into the truck right on time and we got away fast as hell.

I don't remember boy...you know how it is, in my age memory isn't that good anymore. It will come back to my I guess, but now I'm tired.
No problem James, see you soon.

CONTINUATION of tape 2:
*recording starts with Mr. Blackwood already telling the next story*
...and then we went for the big prize. The local German military command of Trondheim had set up their headquarters in a villa in Stokkan and our mission was to destroy it. We were five on this operation, Jack, Francis, Thomas, Samuel and myself and we infiltrated the area from the southwest. We had no explosives and very little ammo, especially for Francis' sniper rifle but a plane dropped some supplies the night before. They landed behind enemy lines and we had to get there first. We had a whole lot of work to do there, lot's of German patrols and a lot of obstacles everywhere.

The German guards had improved their patrol patterns and by then used a lot of overlapping guard positions, it was getting harder to catch them alone. While we hid away under some nearby trees Jack used his noisemaker decoy to lure 2 Jerries into ambushes. That worked well and he hid their bodies near the tree line.
Jack had to be really careful though because further to the east there was a German sergeant with binoculars and an antitank gun watching the area. The only way to the villa on the other side of the river was across a railway bridge north of this position and getting there was a real pain.

There was very little cover against that Jerry with the binoculars and the area was swarming with German soldiers, the supply cache dropped into their positions must have tipped them off. At first we really had no idea how get through but then we figured one out. Francis observed the sergeant with his scope and in the few precious moments where he didn't look through the binoculars he signalled Butch who then made a mad dash into the next cover - all the while being careful of the other german guards. Can you imagine the tension, boy?
So Butch got into cover at some burned down house and there he could use his noisemaker decoy to lure the German around the corner into a trap. Again dashing to the next cover at railway stop he tried the same trick again but the guard saw the body of his comrade at the house and started towards him. In a life-or-death decision Butch started after him and killed him right before getting in view of the other Germans.
It was then that we discovered that we could use the dead Germans as bait. It may sound disgusting to you now boy but back then it was our only way to lure the Jerries over some distance. So Butch moved the body at the house a bit and when the German patrolling nearby saw it he ran there and tried to help him. Our Butch was waiting nearby and got him for good.

North of the burnt down house was another patrolling German and Butch dashed into some snow cover where he hid until the patrol was right on top of him. Like a ghost he rose out of the snow and killed him in the cover of a destroyed railway car. Next was a guard further north who could be lured into ambush by the noisemaker decoy. As Butch was hiding the body another German we hadn't spotted because he was in the treeline to the east noticed the tracks in the snow and came investigating. Luckily he didn't spot Butch but got distracted by the bodies behind the railway car. As he came to help them Butch came up behind and silenced him. Three more Germans gone but so many left...

Two more of them we got west of the burnt down house. Always careful of the other guards simply killed the first one from behind with his knife and hid the body as some rocks further to the west. With his noisemaker decoy another nearby German.... *snorring sounds*
