Weil die gerade einen einen „Strategycon Interactive Eishockey Hype“ :D erleben, wollen wir noch das hier vorstellen:

WebSim Hockey (http://websimhockey.com/)

WebSim Hockey - Who are we?

Brothers Alain and Guillaume Quirion have been playing all kinds of simulators since the 90's. Sometime in 2005, while Alain was still completing his computer engineering degree, they started working on a hockey simulator project, that was eventually named Web Sim Hockey. The reason for the name is that for the first time, it would be possible to play sim hockey online, and do every action directly on your web browser, with no software to install and thus, maximum flexibility/efficiency.

Everything has been built from scratch, starting with the simulation engine, but also the whole gaming concept as well, a complete Pro hockey team management experience.

In 2007, I joined the team on a voluntary basis to help with the design of the site, integration, documentation, marketing, etc. It was also in 2007 that the first league was created! The LMH league is still active today and is the first of now over 350+ leagues (8400+ teams) active daily on our site. Most of these leagues are made of people from Quebec, Canada, but we are now expanding on the English market with a fully translated and functionnal english version, along with support in english to our users as well. We currently have about 500 users outside of Quebec.

In september 2009, Alain started working full-time on the project! By that time, we already had alot of users but it allowed us to really improve the game with regular updates. A year later, I would also join the team, full-time. We are now looking to hire a 3rd person, this time a programmer, as early as october 2011.

So, that's pretty much it for an introduction of who we are, where we come from, and why we are here today.

As you probably all know, it demands a tremendous amount of efforts to develop such a site/game. As you can imagine, supporting a community of 6000 people, developing new features every months, growing our company so that the hockey community knows about us is an expensive business, not to mention our expensive costs for servers.

Also, we believe that when someone spends a little money to play a game, they have a tendency to be more motivated to participate, which is good for everyone. A healthy sim hockey league is a league with GMs that take care of their team.

So that being said, Web Sim Hockey does not come at no charge for the users. In order to be as transparent as possible with your community, I will give our full pricing details.

- Cost per GM, for the first season: 19.95$ (includes cities draft, 26-rounds player draft, full season + playoffs)
- Cost per GM, for a renewal (after the 1st season: 14.95$ (includes post-season rookies draft (2-3 rounds), off-season management (signing your players, make modifications to your investments, etc), and of course, the full second season + playoffs)

So those are the basic fees.

We also have a promotion for full league imports! If you own a league with an older simulator like STHS, EHM, GM Hockey Renaissance, etc., you can import it with your current lineups, at no charge for the first season.

Our community is important

Our philosophy from the start has been to listen to our users to find out what they want, and it has served us very well so far. We constantly listen to our community, answer questions from them so we know what needs to be improved. Users can vote on their favorite future features that they would like implemented and we try as much as possible to give them just that.

Now, we are aware that the EHM community has been looking for a successor. We are not EHM experts, we have been doing things our own way, without trying to immitate or copy a simulator or another, so it is quite hard for us to know what you guys are expecting from a hockey simulator.

It would be truly awesome if you could give us some feedbacks about what you would like to see in a hockey simulator. Of course, we cannot really go with a software application (not for now anyway), but granted that the game is browser-based and that you play along with 23 other GMs, is there any question/expectations you would have from such a game?

If you are still reading this long post I'm writing, then it probably means that you are interested by the topic. I could continue on and on and on for a very long time because there is so much to tell.. Fortunately, the guys at GMGames.org did an interview with us recently. Alot of questions and answers can be found on that article.

I'm just going to link it here so that you can read it if you want: http://bit.ly/qrB6qI

I will be following this thread closely if you have any question, comment, or anything else :)

Again, many thanks for this opportunity, we are proud to be "partners" with The Blue Line, as we are gladly showing TBL logo on all of our pages on our site.

*** UPDATE ***

A FLEXIBLE ONLINE SIMULATION EXPERIENCE

Since our first Virtual Player Evolution league went online back in 2007, we have allowed many different types of game play, to accommodate as many people as possible.

First things first, no matter the league you play in, it will always be one of two possible player evolution:

VIRTUAL EVOLUTION

- Player attributes are re-evaluated twice a year: once at mid-season and once at the end of the season.
- The simulator calculates player evolution using the following criteria: age, investment in player development, and luck.
- Player evolution does not take performance (real or virtual) into account.
- This mode allows you to have better control over your team as it's possible to determine in advance how good your player will become. The "Potential" attribute represents players' overall at age 30.

REAL EVOLUTION

- Player attributes are re-evaluated once at the end of the season.
- Player attribute evolution is only based on their real performances.
- At the end of a Web Sim Hockey season, the attributes are updated using the statistics from the last two seasons (the percentage varies depending on the league option).
- Any league using this mode will need to wait until the end of the current season before being able to continue with their next season (except with Retro leagues).

Moreover, every league can start with a Player set of their choosing. We are very flexible in that regard. Here is a list of player sets that we have so far (more will come):

- NHL 83-84
- NHL 84-85
- NHL 1990 (attributes are based on players' career, not individual 1990 season)
- NHL 1993 (same thing, based on the players career)
- NHL 1997-98
- NHL 1998-99
- NHL 1999-00
- NHL 2005-06
- NHL 2006-07
- NHL 2007-08
- NHL 2008-09
- NHL 2009-10
- NHL 2010-11
- Fictive player sets
- European sets?? There is a project right now to start a 100% finnish league, with players from Finland only from the Elite Finnish league. KHL could follow, if there is a demand for it.

Eventually, we will have a player set for each and every season starting in 1983-84 up until today. We will add them as our league need them to continue to play.

You can take a look at our player attributes for each of those sets by going at this page: http://websimhockey.com/Info/PlayersSet

Please note that our retro sets (except 1990 and 1993 based on career stats) can only be played using Real Player Evolution. That means that every year, we update the attributes with the ones of the following season. This ensures to always have accurate attributes for the players, season after season. You can also sort of "predict" how a player will evolve and thus, it adds quite an edge to your strategy

Additional note: We generate the players attributes ourselves, after every NHL season, more or less a week after the regular season is over. The attributes are ALWAYS generated using complex formulas, using a wide array of statistics: goals, assists, points, +/-, PIM, time on ice, turnovers (for/against), blocked shots, etc. There is no human manipulation of the attributes.

NHL PROSPECTS

In addition to the players with attributes, we also have the PROSPECTS concept. By definition, a player is considered a prospect on Web Sim Hockey if he meets all of those criterias:

- He was drafted in the past 3 NHL Entry Drafts
- He was drafted in the 1st or 2nd round only
- He never played more than 39 games in one full NHL season

Our leagues can enable the prospect feature by voting for or against it when the league starts. If they vote for it, then GMs can draft up to 2 prospects during the initial draft. They can draft more prospects in the off-season drafts.

A prospect converts to a player with attributes when he has played 40 games or more in the NHL during a full season. They are available to be added in every league only once a year: in april when we do our player attributes file.

LEAGUES WITH NHL ROSTERS

Whether it's a retro league or a current day league, there is an unofficial game type that is more and more popular. We will probably make it automated and official sooner than later but for now, it is still managed on a case by case scenario.

THe concept is to start your league by drafting a complete NHL team with their full roster. Per example, if you would do that today, you would draft among the 30 NHL teams and end up with their current players (with the latest trades and acquisitions), but also with their prospects already in your team. The rest of the game is exactly the same, except for the fact that there is no player draft in the first season.

HOW TO TRY WEB SIM HOCKEY FOR FREE

It happens frequentlly that new users on our site hesitate before deciding whether or not they should join a league and pay for it.

This is understandable.

We have 2 ways to play for free:

- Register and create your Free GM account. You will automatically join a DEMO league. Demo leagues allow you to take a look at the site and functions but there are no sims involved, and no activity whatsoever. It is a way to look at the site and that's pretty much it.

- Take over a team as a Replacement GM and play for free for the reminder of the League Season.

This second option is very popular and is best to start playing web sim hockey. What you need to do is once you created your free GM account, you now have access to all of our forums. You can either browse the recruiting forum OR create a new thread saying that you are looking to take over an abandoned team. Within a day or two, you should be all set and ready to join a league at no charge!!

If you do no like the game, you can easily give the team away to someone else by a single click.

****UPDATE****

Major site update today, that includes the following changes and new features:

- Improved Virtual Player Evolution
Each attribute now has its own formula for improved realism. Investments in players development are now having their own negative-evolution if you do not invest to a minimum. The overall evolution expectancy now varies depending of a player age and player development investments.

- Virtual Evolution for Cities (NEW) [also used by Real evolution leagues]
Each attribute has its own formula, but Popularity is the attribute that can vary the most. There are four main factors that influence the popularity of your team in your city: Performance of the team, players quality, individual trophies awards and the competition with other major sports. The sum of the four factors represents the evolution of the Popularity attribute.

- Virtual Evolution for Coaches (NEW)
Coach attributes evolve according to their team performances on the ice, using team statistics such as Powerplay %, Penalty Kill %, Goals for, Goals against, position in the standings, etc.

- New players retirement formula for Virtual evolution leagues
We added an additionnal field in the players page "Retirement %" that is calculated automatically after every player evolution, using two factors: Player age and Overall (OV) attribute. For each combination of those two factors, a percentage is determined and displayed at the player page. Players retire after the playoffs, once you get to the off-season step.

- Added possibility to schedule 2 or 3 sims times a day, automatically. *BETA* (contact us if you want to try it for your league)
Our simulation engine can now be programmed to simulate 1, 2 or 3 automatic simulations per day. The commissioner sets up the sim times and bingo, all you have to do is logon and see the results of the simulation, no other action needed!

- Added possibility to Export CSV file of our Plays Report.
Plays report give you the details of each and every plays attempted by your team during the course of the season. You can see the attempted or succeeded plays report or the % of completion for each play. This helps in choosing which strategy to use for your team.

- Optimization of the Strategies & Practice page, including the added possibility to save your own strategies configuration or choose among 3 presets (Offensive, Defensive, Balanced).
Use our presets for quick setup of your strategies or save your own custom strategies and alternate from one to the other with a single click.

****UPDATE MARCH 9TH 2012****

The update includes the following:

- New page Contracts Overview (Similar to NHLnumbers.com): This page shows the contracts of your players over the next 5 seasons in a dynamic table. You can check/uncheck players you want in your salary cap calculations. Type 1 free agents contracts are automatically renewed using an average OV attribute evolution. The page can be found under GM Office > Contracts Management > Contracts Overview.

- New GM Office menu layout using 6 main themes: Arena, Contracts, Finances, League and Trade Market.

Transcending Fantasy Sports, Canadian Startup Web Sim Hockey Teams Up with NHLPA

http://www.imgbox.de/users/Templer/WebSim_Hockey_Allgemein/675728_eric_bergeron_insiste_realisme_moteur.jpg

Web Sim Hockey is announcing their new partnership with the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), making the Quebec City-based startup’s online hockey simulator game the only one to have been granted an NHLPA license.

The increasingly popular multi-player hockey game puts users in the seat of general managers of pro hockey teams, allowing them to enter leagues with friends while drafting, trading and signing free agents. Social media integrations allow players tocomment on every action.

“We are thrilled to have concluded such a historic agreement with the NHLPA. Although we are an up-and-coming company, the NHLPA realized the potential Web Sim Hockey has for hockey fans worldwide,” said cofounding brothers Guillaume and Alain Quirion in a release. “The best of Web Sim Hockey is now here.”

The agreement only allows Web Sim Hockey to use player pictures, but its more the association with the massive sports icon that the startup is likely after. VP of research and development Eric Bergeron said that Web Sim Hockey approached the NHLPA with the idea after grossing $250,000 over the last few years. The suitors obliged.

“We were very impressed by how quickly Web Sim Hockey has evolved in just three short years,” said the NHLPA’s Martin McQuaig. “Web Sim Hockey is the perfect example of the next generation of high-quality online games—and we are proud to be associated with the team.”

With over 500 active hockey leagues, 10 000 teams managed on a daily basis, and 5 million monthly page views, Web Sim Hockey’s popularity has been growing at a substantial rate.

OnlineSportManagers.com named it Online Hockey Game of the year in 2012. Laurentian University, meanwhile, has used the game for two years now as part of its Bachelor’s degree program in Sports Administration.

The brothers Quirion coded the game from their apartment in 2005 and eventually brought it online in 2009. Along the way they hired Bergeron, who had previously worked with Alain Quirion at a website development company. Bergeron is a passionate hockey fan too, having organized 80,000 signatures to try and bring the Quebec Nordiques back to the NHL in 2005. The team is rounded out with Norman Berrette and Sebastien Lessard.

Any hockey fan engagging in an online league knows the pitfalls of fantasy sports: once the real season ends, everything stops. With Web Sim Hockey, users are engaged all year round, something that likely keeps its 5 million plus monthly page views constant. Users are staying on the site for an average of 192 minutes (in comparison, Facebook users stay on for 413 minutes while Yahoo! users stay on for 151 minutes).

“In 2013 people are much more willing to spend time on those types of games than five years ago, so were trying to get as many people to try it,” Bergeron told Techvibes. “After four years we’ve added tons of new features, we’re listening to our community, we’re always improve the game and we’re very inspired.”

The company has already received significant exposure from French media in Quebec but the challenge remains penetrating the English market (which doesn’t seem too daunting given English Canada’s hockey craze). It rests on whether they can bring the product to enough people’s attention and the NHLPA agreement should help in this respect.

Future plans include ideally forming partnerships with the American Hockey League (AHL), the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) umbrella organization and even Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Bergeron said they are also eyeing a tournament module to allow users to enter into monthly competitions outside of their own leagues.

Along with the NHLPA partnership, Web Sim Hockey’s version two is now out. The team is confident in the product and they’re ready to move forward. “It’s well made, we have a very strong and loyal community that enjoys the game and all we need is to share the word,” said Bergeron.
