Interview bei Firing Squad (http://www.firingsquad.com/games/europa_universalis_3_interview/)
However, there are three main improvements to the naval aspect of the game in EU3, which makes the importance of a navy much bigger. First of all, the naval warfare algorithm has changed, and there are individual ships of various types as frigates, ship of the lines, galleons and galleys. Secondly, we have changed the effects from blockades to severely cripple income from blockaded coastal provinces, and at the same time give part of that income to the country blockading. Finally, due to troop recruitment becoming extremely slow in colonies, and the fact that colonies can be seized without peace negotiations, a nation without local naval supremacy in a war, may lose their colonies.

Europa Universalis III also changes the way units are replaced. Instead of just building more units to replace losses, regiments will receive a constant stream of reinforcements.

In contrary to Hearts of Iron II combat is going to take place inside the attacked province. If forests are covering 30 percent of the province’s land, there’ll be a 30 percent chance that the combat takes place in a forest. So you’ll never know in advance what conditions your troops will face. As in previous EU games you can’t control the combat directly but are given an abstracted overview that also shows you the dice rolls and leader attributes.Deswegen fließen Flüße jetzt auch durch Provinzen, so schätze ich.
